There is more to the environmental movement than struggle and strife. In light of our changing environment, everyone must have an opportunity to take part in the economic boom that promises to rise out of the ashes of the past. We all must seek to be involved in the “green wave” as creative participants if humanity expects to succeed in making positive and lasting change for the benefit of our planet and all life on it.
Still, the justice movement must continue on, keeping in mind the open paths that are taking shape; and communities must be empowered to be involved in the growth spurt occurring today. Ultimately, the success of our collective work will be measured by how well we closed the gap between those who have more than they need and can take full advantage of the emerging economy, and those who may still be in the dark regarding the dynamic changes that can reduce waste, increase productivity, and eliminate the need to be totally dependent on others for survival. Our challenge is to make new and emerging environmental opportunities grounds for equity, access, and acts of justice.
